Clinical And Metabolic Characteristics Of The Studied Groups

3.1. Clinical and metabolic characteristics Demographic variables and clinical characteristics of the studied groups are shown in Table 1. There was no significant difference in age, body mass index between the studied groups. Meanwhile, there were statistically significant increase in disease duration; TG, TC, FBG levels and HbA1C percentage in diabetic cases when compared to their allied control group with higher values were for macro-albuminuria T2DM group. LDL-C and HDL-C levels showed statistically significant difference in diabetic cases when compared to their allied control group but with no difference between micro and macro albuminuria T2DM groups. Serum urea, creatinine and UACR were statistically significantly higher in T2DM cases when compared to their allied control group and normo-albuminuria T2DM groups with higher values were for macro-albuminuria T2DM group (Table 1). 3.2. Immune/ inflammatory status and tubular damage This current study revealed statistically significant increase in plasma ox-LDL level and up-regulation of TLR4 expression in T2DM cases when compared to their allied control group with higher values were for macro-albuminuria T2DM group. Meanwhile, plasma omentin1 level was statistically significantly decreased in T2DM cases than their allied controls with lower values were for macro-albuminuria T2DM group. This current study revealed statistically significant increase in urinary LCN2 level in T2DM cases than their allied control groupShow MoreRelatedIs Withaferin A, A Magic Bullet For Metabolic Syndrome?1435 Words   |  6 PagesIs Withaferin A, a magic bullet for metabolic syndrome? A recent and exciting new study shows that withaferin A, a steroidal lactone isolated from Withania somnifera plant, which is very commonly known as Ashwagandha or Indian ginseng or Indian winter cherry, can exert profound therapeutic beneficial effect on metabolic syndrome (increased body weight, hepatic steatosis, insulin resistance and hypertension) in mice. Individual genetic and environmental factors also play important part(Bovo, Ciorba, Martini, 2007). Hetu and Fortin (1995) studied the characteristics of highly amplified music in discotheques from psychoacoustic and phenomenological points of view. They found that the amplifiedRead MoreRelationship Between Current Shift Work And Work Related Stress Symptoms Among Healthcare Workers From A Clinical Setting1334 Words   |  6 PagesBACKGROUND: shift work is a very common characteristic in healthcare and has been associated with work-related stress. OBJECTIVE: In this study, we investigated the relationship between current shift work and work-related stress symptoms among healthcare workers from a clinical setting in Medellin, Colombia. METHODS: a cross-sectional study was conducted from January to July 2014, Participants completed demographic, occupational and lifestyle questionnaire, and a self-reported work-related stressRead MoreHealth Symptoms And Risk Factors1747 Words   |  7 Pagesdifferences in body mass and metabolic units such as glucose, ghrelin, and uric acid. The study confirmed their hypothesis that there would not have the difference between HFCS and sucrose with regard to effects on energy regulation hormone. For fertilisation to occur, spermatozoa must undergo capacitation either in vivo (in the female reproductive tract) or in vitro (in cond itioned culture medium), which involves a sequence of membrane and metabolic changes, including transition of progressive motility to a highly irregular movement (hyperactivation). Hyperactivated motility is displayed by sperm swimming in the oviduct and has several physiological advantages, which could certainly help spermRead MoreSoar Research Paper: Theories Of Autism.
